Psychedelic Medical School Elective
We are proud to announce the launch of a new psychedelic medicine elective at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Medical School. This course is one of the first of its kind in the country!
The elective was co-founded by Josh Willms PhD (student sponsor), Ben McCauley (DENOVO Therapy Director), and Natalie Scanlan PhD(faculty sponsor). Instructors include TTUHSC faculty and psychedelic therapy professionals from Denovo Therapy, Lubbock’s local psychedelic therapy clinic.
The elective is a survey for first and second-year medical school students and covers the psychedelic model of care, acculturation and traditional plant medicine perspectives, pharmacology, medical applications, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, diversity and inclusion, business and ethics, set and setting, and ends with discussion and integration.
The course showcases the innovative nature of the TTUHSC medical school and the pioneering spirit of the West Texas psychedelic therapy professionals. The course also includes efforts to research the course’s effectiveness and students’ attitudes about psychedelics.
